Ken Denike - School Board Trustee
Ken is an incumbent member of the Board. A graduate of the University of British Columbia's Science Faculty and School of Community and Regional Planning. He has a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business with thesis in public finance. He is faculty emeritus at UBC and the recipient of numerous awards.
Ken has been recognized as a strong advocate for high-quality public education and fair funding for public schools.
1984 marked Ken's first term on the Vancouver Board of Education. He served as chair from 1987-88, 1995-96 and again from 2006-07. In 1997, Ken became regional representative with the B.C. Trustees for the Ministry for Children and Families. From 1994 - 1996 he served as an executive member for the inaugural Vancouver Health Board (now Vancouver Coastal Health Authority). He served as chair of Legislative Committee of BC School Trustees Association. In 1998 he was elected by representatives from all school boards across the province as Director for the B.C. Public School Employers Association, which he chaired from 2000-02 and is currently a director. In 2006 he served as trustee representative on successful negotiations with BC Teachers Federation for contract 2006 - 2011. He represents BCPSEA on the BC Education Advisory Council and is liaison trustee to metro boards of education.
